Brooklyn: Had To Get Out Of Town

Dog's are born and they don't get a choice about looks. Much like people we are born and we don't get a choice about looks.

A day in July 2020 I had messages coming to me from three people. Please help this dog, she needs to get out of town or they will kill her. I thought to myself, why would she be killed? Had she done something wrong? Many questions come to mind.

I made contact with the people and found out her story. Brooklyn had done nothing wrong but be born looking like she does.

I had until 5:00 p.m. on a Friday to get her out or she would be seized and killed. I kept in contact with the people reaching out to the rescue.

Brooklyn had been on Craigslist in January, 2020 and then ended up in a town that has a ban on dogs labeled "Pit Bull". Brooklyn had nothing wrong but end up in a town where she was not welcomed.

We rushed to get where we needed to save Brooklyn, When we met Brooklyn she came right up to us and interacted. She was with two small dogs, where she had been camping out at. We find she had been around children too.

Brooklyn is a very gentle, sweet dog and most likely age 10 and I often look at her and wonder what was her life like before all of this happened to her. She has a little arthritis in her back left leg. But she still enjoys just hanging out and enjoying life. She has no idea how close she was to being killed because of her looks.

Mecca's Pit Bull Rescue has saved many dogs from death's row. Dog's labeled "Pit Bull" and many times we have taken a DNA test and found they are mixes. You read that right! We have tested dogs with Labrador Retriever, Chow Chow, Australian Cattle Dog, Saint Bernard, American Bulldog, Standard Bulldog and other breeds mixed in.

Being kicked out of town because of looks. It is sad when you think about it. It would be like being kicked out of town because you have less than others in a town.

Many times these dogs are judged by looks and no one takes the time to really find out about the temperament. No one takes the time to find out if the dog wants to interact with people.

So much judgment by looks. We think she is a mix of Boxer, Standard Bulldog and other.

Mecca's Pit Bull Rescue believes every dog deserves a chance. We observe behavior, test the dog and train.

You can help this rescue by donating and learning about the rescue at www.GreatNonProfits.org and www.GuideStar.org we are a foster based rescue and you can become a building block for the rescue by helping.
